I attended for two weeks and wish I could have stayed for longer. I’m already planning to return next year. All the teachers were great but I had the majority of my classes with Florian and Christine who were outstanding. Although the classes can be difficult and intense, Florian and Christine still bring levity and wit and make the whole experience enjoyable and fun while still keeping a high bar. I really appreciated the way the day is broken up - for me, in the advanced class, that meant mornings in the language lab with Christine who helped correct pronunciation and undo mistakes I’ve been making for years, and then afternoons mostly with Florian on grammar and real life social interactions and French culture. Everyone here is great and the location in Nice is fantastic - on day one they give you helpful tips on good places to eat and personal recommendations which was a great way to ease into the immersive experience. I learned so much during my first two weeks here I could not resist adding a third. Florian, Christine, and Raphael were extraordinary teachers: dynamic, engaging, good-humored, encouraging, and inordinately adept at assessing the ever-evolving progress of each student. Ellie and Nina were top-notch members of the staff: warm, informative, patient, and ready to help with practical concerns, excursions, and newly-acquired French expressions. The lab and pronunciation sessions were excellent (challenging but rewarding) as were the grammar and vocabulary classes. The interactive group sessions (in which we learned about French culture and the actual French used for everyday situations) were entertaining, enlightening, and immediately practical. I discovered the Institut de Français in Nice almost by chance, and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. At first, the price felt a little high, but after a few days, I realized it was worth every penny. Their method is incredible. Instead of endless writing, you’ve speak, listen, repeat, and live the language from day one. It’s hands on, dynamic, and genuinely effective. The teachers are exceptional. Knowledgeable, patient, passionate, and incredibly attentive. The management is professional, and everything is organized with care. The days are intensive, but in the best way. You get a mix of labs, discussions, and even cultural excursions. We visited places like the Picasso Museum and Antibes, all while hearing and using French. This wasn’t just a class. It was the most fulfilling learning experience I’ve ever had. It brought back the joy of being a student, surrounded by people from all over the world. J'ai adoré chaque minute à L'Institut de Français, Nice.  Tout les professeurs y sont excellents.  En particular, Florian Baratier, le professeur avec qui j'ai étudié le plus, a un don pour enseignement.  Malgré les heures longues, ce n'etais jamais enneyeux. THIS SCHOOL IS INCREDIBLE!  And I've been to 5...Listen, speak, repeat is the method/philosophy!  It's an intense SPEAKING school.  Sure they teach the rules and structure of the language but above all, you SPEAK FRENCH all day/every day.  And after all, isn't that the goal? In May 2026, I attended a 4-week French course at the Institute de Francais (IDF) in Nice.  The course was what I expected and more.  I am a beginner and a bit hesitant to speak French to random French-speaking people, but I did force myself to converse with locals.  The IDF lessons in grammar, pronunciation, and everyday situations helped me speak with a wide variety of people (pharmacists, drivers, - and a very helpful gentleman in the nearby town of Laghet). The IDF teachers and administrators were caring and encouraging.  They are committed to ensuring the growth of students’ ability in French and it shows! The class sizes are kept small which provides the amazing opportunity for more personal attention.  The structured outings also allowed more immersion with native French speakers. The facility, is very modern and chic.  It is in a lovely former hotel and includes all the amenities needed for a school (e.g., comfortable classrooms, a modern language lab, kitchenette, etc.).  The location is within walking distance of Le Vieux Nice and the beach front.  It is also located near the city tram, the Nice Ville train station for TGV access, and shopping/eating establishments. English is not allowed during class.  I often found myself floundering when trying to make myself understood.  But muddling through is how you learn - and build confidence.  You will do both at IDF. The course is strenuous.  I took it while on rest and recuperation from my job.  I can say that I did not rest as I normally do on breaks, but my mind was refreshed as I got to focus on a thing that is entirely different from my work. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at IDF including meeting the many AMAZING students and staff.  I highly recommend IDF to people wanting to improve their French for work, personal enrichment, or, even for expats who want to learn to speak to their French neighbors.

One of the best decisions of my life. I studied here for 4 weeks, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. Before arriving, I didn’t know any French at all, but after just 4 weeks I was already speaking and understanding so much. I will definitely come back again to continue improving and take my French to the next level.
